And Life Goes On (personal update & a creation)

I've been so bad ..... I haven't made a post in a long time. I've tried not to make them all on a personal note, but I haven't been able to create much lately! However I did create one card this week ……

So here’s a little of my dirty laundry! Some of you may know that I left my husband in March because he was verbally and emotionally abusive. It just wasn't a healthy environment for me .... let alone the kids. So I made a big change in my life and the lifestyle of my boys! Unfortunately, the husband is oblivious to his problems … even though I’ve told him for almost ten years that he has anger issues or needs to stop making mountains out of mole hills.

I've interviewed for a job (although it has nothing to do with my clerical background) and I'm a little leery about it. But .... it beats not making any money! I did get that job and have been there for about a month. When I say I'm rollin’ in the dough.... I'm not kidding! It's a bakery!

What's happened since then ..... Hmmm, my sister got married on St Patty's Day and we had the reception in May. She got some pretty great little treasures for her house! I think their favorite was their coffee/espresso machine. YUMMMMMMY! Congrats to ya both, but Rick better develop eyes in the back of his head with you Sarah ... I see those bunny ears!

My two boys have tested and are not quite as ready as I am for them to go to public school. You have to understand, they've been homeschooled all their life, so this will be a drastic change for them.

Oh and here's what I've been up to.... Vroom Vroom baby! I bought me a car. It wasn't brand new, but the miles were low, the price was right AND my personal favorite .... it's a manual transmission! I ABSOLUTELY HATE AUTOMATICS!!!!

So with all that said ….. the only thing to say is that I’ve been missing you, my friends!!!!!! I will try to post again. Hopefully, I'll find my creative muse again!

I've been secretly searching for some great card designers. Although I made a post on ScrapbookSuppliesDirect, I didn't run any official call for card designers.

What this is all about is.....

I'm organizing a new group called STAMP OF THE MONTH CLUB (SOTMC) at SSD. This is something new and I honestly hope it will grow. I'll announce more on the SOTMC in my next post. Right now, I've got the daunting task of announcing the gals who have been selected to participate in the maiden month of SOTMC.

Well there’s been a lot going on and I just haven’t had a chance to get around here to boast and roast! So I think I'll do it over the next couple days! However I do have a couple pretty amazing things to share with you for now!

Counterfeit Christmas

Well as I've already posted, I just returned from Nashville visiting family. We had our annual Christmas gathering and I got to see some family I hadn't seen in two years. It's always great to see them!

Last year my parents got me a gift certificate to Michael's for Christmas, but this year since I didn't want anything in particular they just decided to give me cash. I held onto it for a while, but finally got around to taking it to the bank. I'm saving for a kick butt camera and if I kept it in my purse it was gonna burn right through.

Imagine, if you will, my surprise, when the teller informs me that one of the $50 bills I'm attempting to deposit is a counterfeit!!! They used one of those color change pens that indicate if it's legit or not. So now, I'm stuck in this waiting game! I get to wait 30 days to see if their fraud division determines if in fact is truly a counterfeit bill. I mean what a mood quasher!

I hated to call my parents to tell them. Mainly because I know my mom. She'll feel bad that her gift wasn't good and want to replace it. I can't seem to get her to realize that it was the thought that counts and not to replace it. I just don't want her to pay for someone else's screw up! The bills she gave me came STRAIGHT FROM THE BANK! I can't believe that the bank passed a bogus bill and there's no possible recourse.

So ... I suppose today I'm going out to buy one of those darn counterfeit detecting pens and mark every bill someone hands me (not family though). I don't want to be like that but by golly if they make me wait while they do my bills when buying groceries, then I'm gonna make them wait while I check what they give me back! I don't care much for being screwed over.... especially when it comes to money.

I just feel so bad for my mom, because now she feels guilty and it's not her fault. I would have never mentioned it to her, but I knew that she had more bills at home from that same transaction .... my sisters present.

Anyhow, gonna end this post and try to make a happy one next.

Handmade Holiday Creations & Giveaway

We'll Christmas is approaching rapidly and I am NO WHERE near ready. I can say that I've got my tree up (since 11/28) AND that I've mailed some of my Christmas Cards..... but I haven't finished my other cards, nor have I put anything under my tree! EEEEK!

Somehow, I still found time to create! Here are a few Handmade Holiday Creations that I've done .......

In it's former life it was a baby formula can, but after wrapping it and creating a paper bow on top it has transformed into a lovely package for a gift.

These were glass balls that I purchased from Michaels. The first one I used the ol ship inside the bottle to create a presents under the tree look. The second one was much easier to do, it was simply filling it with quilled coordinating papers.

We'll yesterday WAS eventful, but not very productive! Boy oh boy did my kiddos hate going to the bank with me yesterday! They usually enjoy it since they get a treat or a coffee, but on this trip .... SANTA was waiting. Check it out.....

Now you can tell that this trip wasn't planned .... oldest son wore his holiest of pants.

I didn't get to scrap anything, but honestly I think my brain needed the evening off! Instead I mindlessly played mahjong on my computer and watched tv .... I super zoned out!

I finally hit the town to try to get a little Christmas shopping done... and it's about darn time! I had a really hard time finding things for my oldest son. He's getting to the age now where he doesn't seem to want toys....more gadgets and gizmos! The youngest is still into toys, but also likes gizmos! Egad, it was hard shopping for them. I'm not done yet, but I couldn't really find ANYTHING that I felt they would enjoy. I had better luck on Amazon.com, not to mention they've got a 70% off section w/free shipping on certain items!!!! Anyhoo, I'll be doing some more shopping tomorrow I suppose. What I was UTTERLY SHOCKED to see is that while at Target they only had TWO (yes, two) registers open ... and there wasn't really a line at either one. I also went to a couple other stores and it was the same thing. This wasn't like the other years with wall to wall people .... then again, I haven't hit Wally World yet (not sure if I want to either).

That's about all for now .... I'll be making another post tomorrow!

Hit the brakes & a Whoo Hooo!

WOW is Christmas getting ever so close! It's only 12 days away!!!! What happened, it was just Thanksgiving, then I blinked! I haven't even started my shopping... how awful is that! I just told the husband that tomorrow I wanted to have some time to get a few goodies for under the tree!

I'm proud of my fellas too, they put the Christmas Tree up all by themselves! We'll actually my youngest did nearly ALL the work!!! He's such a hard worker!

HIT THE BRAKES ..... I'm getting older! I'll be turning 38 next week. EEEEK! I remember when I used to think that was old, now it's my turn! It just all seems a blur after 30. Everything seems to have flown by and the kids are getting older right before my eyes! {sigh}

Scent-sational Cards!

I'm long overdue for another technique. This is another one where you will think that I have flipped my lid, but if you're on a budget ... you can make this one work for you!

I promise it works and the end results can be quite 'scent'- sational and fun and a lot less costly than buying those scented embossing powders. Give it a shot ... what do you have to lose except a little time and a little bit of supplies.

Basic Supplies List

VersaMark Embossing Pad (or other embossing pad)

Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE)

Stiff Patterned Paper

Heat Gun

Coffee Grinds, Unused of course!

Step One

Make a tag out of patterned paper that is slightly larger than your embossing pad.
Press embossing pad against tag and wiggle it around to make an imperfect rectangle.

Step Two

Take 50/50 mixture of UTEE and dry coffee grounds and mix in a bag.

Insert tag and do the mixture to cover embossing ink completely. Shake off excess.

Step Three Apply heat to melt the mixture. Here I used my coffee pot's warming pad. I used this because I didn't want a heat gun to bow mixture off of the tag. If you do not wish to use your coffee pot in this fashion, apply heat gun from the UNDERSIDE of tag. The embossed tag is finished.

Here is the card that I taught at my LSS using this technique.

WOW! You hate these phone calls.....

.....you know the ones! The ones that leave you with that feeling in the pit of your stomach. The ones that either someone is in the hospital and is very sick, or that someone has just died.

I got one of these calls today, but it has me wondering more about the incident. My cousin was found hanging in a tree, but was still barely alive. He was taken to the hospital and put on life support.

My sister was the one who made the call, but she informed me he had been taken off life support (not sure if it's because he no longer needs it, or because they're allowing him to die).

I don't know and it's driving me crazy. I don't know if he's still alive, was this self inflicted, who called 911? So many questions and NO answers!!!

And in the shadow notes, I just celebrated my BLOG-iversary with over hits!!! Thanks everyone!

It's not to late! Cast your vote toward Decision 2008! Who will be our next President? Will it be McCain or Obama.

My husband went this morning and cast his vote, but not before standing in a line that was about an hour and a half long! Sheesh, makes for a miserable start to ANY morning! I however was able to wait until after my class at my LSS. I went and guess what .... no lines, no waiting. I was in and out within 5 minutes! This was much more painless (for me) than the media hyped it up to be! I strongly believe that our local media had put the fear into everyone so much that they all ran first thing this morning. I'm just glad its over, now the waiting begins!

Who will be our next President? Will it be McCain or Obama?

Don't Mess with My Toot Toot!

Alright, here we go ... a few posts back I told you that I had applied for a Design Team. I never told you who I applied with out of fear of jinxing myself, which seems to happen anytime I get excited about something. Soooooooo, now that's it's said and done ....

I MADE THE TEAM (whoop whoop) !

Just as soon as their products arrive, I can begin designing for SPARKLE N SPRINKLE.

I can't wait! My wheels are turning now, but I can't do anything until THEIR goods arrive. As Tom Petty would say..... "waiting is the hardest part."

So with that said.... WHOOP WHOOP!

I love making cards so I think that this will be a great fit into my RDA of papercrafting.
I'm off to prepare my first mini order with them.

So I've decided to apply for another DT. My feelings weren't hurt by any means but it does put me in a of a funk. A week In Review & What's In the Coming Week

Wow .... Lots of thing have been happening and there's more to come!

My youngest son turned NINE and my parents came to visit!
I so love 'em dearly, but when they come to town it's like the Hatfield & the McCoys!
[so much dislike between my husband and parents]
Some of you already know!

Anyhow, my boys had a blast eating, swimming, haning out with the g-parents. My youngest got some videos, pokemon cards
(ughhh, I just don't get those things),
toys and lots of hugs!
I always hate it when they have to leave, but all good things must come to an end. Besides that ... I'm planning a trip to visit them and my grandmother in November sometime.

I didn't get to scrap much, well actually none at all.
That royally stinks because I've got to work on an album for someone. I've got lots more to do, but quite honestly it's difficult when you don't know the faces you're looking at and none of the photos are dated. Oh well, just means I have to meet with him often and get relative info to keep scrapping. I have an impending deadline though of around the first week in November ... SO I BETTER STAY BUSY ON IT!

ADD THE ILLUSION OF WATER (Technique)

This is a great technique for creating water on small projects such as ATC's or Cards. I hope that you will give it a whirl and make this technique your own. If you do, please post a comment and a link so that I can check out your creation.

SUPPLIES

Craft Baggie (Bead sized are great)

Clear TapeRed Line Tape

Cardstock

Hair Gel (Clear or Blue)

In my example I’ll be creating an ATC (Artist Trading Card).

Using a piece of cardstock (3 ½ x 5 for the ATC) score and fold at center to create 2 ½ x 3 ½ foundation. Unfold and stamp and color image as desired.Cut away any background that you do not wish to keep, making sure that you have a minimum margin around all edges to conceal the baggie. Set aside.

Fill baggie (for my ATC I’ve used a bag approx 2”x3”) with 1 TBSP of hair gel. Zip/Seal baggie closed. Fold mouth of baggie over and tightly secure with tape to help keep hair gel from drying out or leaking.

On inside of the cardstock run red line tape around the edges of image to secure baggie in place. Run additional red line tape to seal ATC closed and hid baggie edges.

ONE STEP FURTHER:

Add food coloring to create any color desired.

Add Glitter for some sparkle.

Add small buttons that compliment the theme.

REMEMBER I'D LOVE TO SEE YOUR TAKE ON THIS TECHNIQUE.

Well they're back!

And yup, the mice did play

while the cat was away!

The hubby & youngest son, Alex, went camping overnight and squirrel hunting!

(No worries, no squirrels were harmed)

Alex took some photos and will try to upload them a little later this week.

While they were away, I did get my scrap on a little......

The Countdown has begun

We'll I've been absolutely buried with projects this week. I've been working on the sb album that this fella (JOE) has hired me to do for his wife as a secret. Additionally, I've been sewing a pair of camo pants for youngest son. Hubby is taking him camping overnight and they're going squirrel hunting. The pants were finished last night .... sooooo many pockets....... so many broken needles! Sooooo glad that mess is done, but now I have to make the shirt. Oh well atleast I have a little more time to get that done. They're heading out tonight to get an early start in the morning and by golly I'm gonna stay home and scrap my butt off! I've been so missing the papercuts. LOL! So hopefully, I can get some new creations up.

Oh and I've tried my hand at digi. That's a first for me! The first one I did I used a template ... kinda just rearrange the elements and drop the pictures in, but my second one was an absolute freehand creation.

What a week it has been so far! So much has happened!

Some of you already know that I organize a group that raises funds and aids in budget needs for my local library. We just wrapped up our annual silent auction ... and it was great! I think it went well, but all I can say is WHEW I'm glad it's over! A lot of work goes into fundraising. I was pleased that several of my cards and notecards that I put in the auction sold and did quite well. YEAH!

Moving right along, today was also the close of a Design Team call we had running at ScrapbookSuppliesDirect.com. There were ooooooooddles of awesome creations submitted, but I had the unfortunate task of picking JUST ONE! I mean, come on... ONE?!?! There seriously was some great stuff.

Well, I just wanted to take a moment to tell CHRISTINE (aka: ScrappyGal) Congrats for getting the first DT spot. Hope over to SSD or check out her blog and wish her well.

Oh and toot toot, of sorts! I've got my first official album to do for someone. This fella wants me to do a complete album to chronicle the relationship w/his now wife. It's a secret though! He plans on having it to display when they renew their vows. He wants to make it a centerpiece so she can look at it and say 'what's this.' He ultimately wants to make her cry! I guess in this instance I'll enable him. LOL! But I'm so stoked about getting this chance.

I sit here and wonder as my wedding anniversary nears, will he remember or wont he? It doesn’t really matter one way or the other if I get a gift, although I know I won’t. The one time he bought me a gift on our anniversary (back around the 1st or 2nd year), it was really because he had been such an ass towards me. He bought me a 20 gallon fish tank. Again, it’s not about the present, but about whether he REMEMBERS. I’ve even had to break it down for him and say mean stuff like, “wow … I knew it was an omen that our anniversary should fall right after a tragedy like 9/11”. This isn’t one of those milestone anniversaries; it’s number 9. Will he behave himself or will he have another ‘angry’ day. Just for giggles, I’m going to open a poll to see what you think. Olympic Tally Challenges

Okay I'm waist deep in the TallyScrapper Olympics Challenges now. Here are the three that I've done so far

CHALLENGE #1: Progress

RULES: "Progress" must be in the title! Layout must include the olympic circles (any size, color, layout, just have circles)

RESULTS: I actually liked the layout and colors used here.

CHALLENGE #2: "no, no, no"

RULES: No patterned paper, no stickers, no rub-ons, no brads, practically no nothing! Must incorporate staples or tape, must include "no, no, no" somewhere on layout.

RESULTS: I wasn't totally thrilled with how this turned out, not quite what my minds eye had invisioned.

Well the base cardstock (white) was a solid white piece that I randomly stamped w/paint. I used rust, evergreen and royal blue paints, which coordinates perfectly w/cardstock in this layout.
The BIG circle center is the title "No 3" (which means no, no, no). The title No 3 was freehand cut in the green cs. I used staples in each corner to anchor the mat (blue cs) and did my journaling on them.

Journaling reads:

No, it's not easy being a mommy!

Everything is no, no, no!

No quite time for me,

No privacy in the bathroom,

No rest for the weary.

My time is not my own!

I wouldn't give it up for anything!

CHALLENGE #3: 95 (the number of medals the USA had received thus far in the Olympics)

RULES: (too much to type, see comments below photo)

In this challenge came about due to the number of metals the US had received (hence the numbers 29, 34, & 32 .... and the colors gold, bronze and silver)

Here it is and it is what it is.........

GOLD - Large Brad in center of flowers

SILVER - Brads at the end of paper strips

BRONZE - "95" & "ME" (Also serves double duty as stickers)

29 Pcs PP = Six multi-layer flowers that have been chalked and inked, paper strips upper left corner. Tag has been stamped w/lines therefore turning it into patterned paper. Tab on end of tag.

34 Stickers = 95 & ME were bronze/copper letters that were ran thru xyron. Rest of stickers are found in the wording around photo mat.

32 Brads = 20 along the edge of the photo mat, 6 on flowers, & 6 at the end of the paper strips.95 things = on the tag ... and THAT was the hardest part about this challenge. I'm a humble person and thinking of that many things to me was kinda like bragging and that's not my style ... so, it is what it is.

We'll I decided to give it a go .... so I took Trina's Timeless Treasures Card Sketch Challenge a shot and this was my creation.... Happy Harvest! Hope you like it!

I used a lot of pop dots to really pop the farmer off the page.
The farmer and the barn are stamped images I received from Sairabee.
The pumpkins and the 'happy harvest' are Stampin Up stamps that I owned.

Oh one of my pet peeves & a lighter note

Today is a RANT day!

Firstly, my boys are driving me buggy! They're at each other and doing everything they can to get on my absolute last nerve......... I just wanna choke 'em! I know that's an idle threat, but man, they're really outta control today. If I ground them, then I get stuck home with even more of their bs .... so who really loses when they get grounded?

Secondly, I gotta tell ya gals, if you've ever gone to the grocery store only to come out and find that some dummy has PARKED infront of the buggy return blocking you from being able to RETURN A FREAKIN BUGGY? We'll in the last month that's happend THREE TIMES! Today was the last straw! I got my silent revenge! I loaded my groceries in the car calmly as the mid-teen woman left her car and went into the store. I figured she was either going into the grocery to the bank or to grab a few items. Either way, I KNEW I had to act fast if I was gonna have time to pull it off. I calmly parked my buggy by her door of her car. I moved my car do a differnt spot in the lot and then immediately went around and collected as many buggies as I could and parked them around her car. I was hoping that this IDIOT would stop and wonder why buggies were surrounding her car and realize that maybe it's because she BLOCKED the buggy return. I wish I was able to surround her car, but didn't have enough time. Either way when she came out she had this puzzled look on her face, but the IDIOT just got in her car and drove off .... leaving the buggies RIGHT THERE! Made me feel a little better, but I would have felt ALOT better if I would have inconvenienced her!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHH!

Okay I'm better now!

Fuze'd with Fun

Here's a little something I pulled together for an altered item challenge on TallyScrapper. The idea behind this challenge was to take something not designed to store scrapbooking supplies and convert it. I just love the sleek design on this bottle and had to use this for my creation. I used the paper I used was Prima Marketing's Notion (#602208). I used Stampin-Up Dimensional Glaze to pop the dark dots on the patterned paper. I just absolutely love the little flower ontop of the lid.

Packing Tape Transfer Technique

You can add this awesome technique to almost anything. I have used a black and white photocopy here and placed it on cardstock, although color copies work well, too. This simple, yet wonderful technique will add character to any creation. I have used this technique on chipboard titles and layouts.

Supplies List

Clear Packing Tape

Warm Water

Copy of Photograph

Bone Folder

Cardstock/Chipboard

Class is in session, grab a seat and let's get started.

First make a color or black and white copy of your photos to use in this technique. You can darken or lighten image on copier to make you image as light or bold as desired. You may wish to have a ghost image and lighten your copy considerably. You can also increase/decrease size of desired image. The choice is up to you. Just understand that you MUST use a toner based machine. An ink jet printer will NOT work. Something else to consider is that if you have a clock or words in your photograph you will need to mirror the image otherwise the clock or words will appear backwards on your transfer.

Cut the photocopy to desired size and place image side against sticky side of packing tape.

Burnish with bone folder (Popsicle stick will work great too).

Place in warm water for approximately 1 minute.

Remove and place on work surface, sticky side up! With your fingers gently rub away the paper until gone, if necessary apply more water.

Your image has transferred to the tape and should have retained some of it's stickiness for applying to your cardstock/chipboard. If more stickiness is desired, a spray vellum adhesive works well.

Viola! You are done.

(shhhhhhh, just don't tell my son I put his photo on PINK paper!)

How to Make Paper Leather

We can never find the perfect textured paper.... atleast I can't without driving to Timbucktu or placing a huge order from somewhere for quantities I don't need.

Well today you will be learning about adding texture to your own cardstock. This is so simple, you'll wonder why I thought of it first .... remember I'm just a dumb blonde! LOL! Okay, everyone take ther seat ... class is in session.....

Supply List

Misting Bottle filled with water
Cardstock (your choice of color)
Rolling Pin (optional)
Cats Eye Fluid Chalk (Optional)
Iron (Optional)

Step One

Place your cardstock on a waterproof work surface, and lightly cover one side of cardstock with water - do not saturate. Note: Some cardstocks will bleed their color, test paper first to make sure that this will not occur.

Step Two

Gently crunch cardstock into a ball. Unfold carefully and repeat crunching process several times. Avoid tearing your cardstock as you work.

Step Three

After you have reached the desired texture, flatten paper down with rolling pin (or hands) and allow to dry. I allowed mine to dry overnight.

One Step Further:

If you're in a hurry or you want a slightly different look, you can lightly iron the paper. The texture will remain. Additionally, you can also use your cats eye fluid chalks across the ridges in your paper leather just before ironing it.

Well we've made it safely through another 4th of July with out blowing up anything or losing any fingers. We had a mundane kinda 4th, nothing special, but the kids had an absolute blast honing their pyro skills. They bought an arsenal of fireworks, but seemingly favored the 100 SECOND SMOKE BOMB! Man that thing wouldn't quit, not to mention smoked out da 'hood! One of my boys even fumigated the grass (trying to smoke out the mosquitos) and another jumped on his bike and rode around. We're not sure if it was to escape the smoke, share it with other people or pretend his bike had jet propulsion! From their pyro play and love of da bomb, I created this layout...... Hope ya like!

First the well poooooh! I didn't make the TallyScrapper DT, but that sure won't discourage me from trying again AND Again. Persistence pays off for stalkers (sometimes). I just realize that I was up against some really talented gals! So to those gals that make the DT ... CONGRATULATIONS and I can't wait to see what you bring us for your tour of duty.

Now the Whoo Hoo! On my challenge I participated in about "HAPPINESS IS..." on Tally....... I placed second. Not first, but I had some stiff competition! Whoo hoo! Still happy with second!

This creation I can attribute to two things. On Tally, would be CCORIGINAL for a Journal and VictorianGirl for a challenge about Happiness.

Journaling is embedded in the photo and reads.....

Happiness is a frame of mind that is dynamic in it’s nature.

It is the state of oneself and makes one’s life worth living.

Happiness is found within and in the giving and sharing with those less fortunate.

It is a sense of joy that can not be bought or sold.

My happiness is found in the daily sacrifices for my family and the sakes of others.

We'll I really want to be on a Design Team that is active! I have pulled this creation together based on guidelines established by GutterGirlz.

The theme is I FEEL LIKE A WOMAN (Shania Twain song) and must incorporate panty hose. All the gals layouts that I saw were great. They were sexy. I dont have that hot little bod some of those gals do and am not really a girlie girl. With this in mind it helped me create the following layout for their challenge. I took the liberty to show the 'other' side of being a woman...... maybe you'll get a kick out of it. I love to place humor in layouts when I can.

I participated in this TALLY challenge recently were we were inspired to create a layout base on High school. The challenge required us to utilize music from our high school years as a building block for the layout. I chose a song called INVISIBLE by Ronnie James Dio. I submitted my entry into the contest and it placed first. This was my greatest accomplishment so far on Tally! It's a great group of gals.

Here's the layout & a close up of the journaling.... be ye warned, it contains the F*bomb...

As you will read, my high school years were not fun. This layout symbolizes the pain I went through.

I tried so hard to enjoy high school, but so many of you tried to screw it up! I wasn’t like you, I didn’t play the same sports and I wasn’t involved in the same activities. I didn’t fit into your clique. You tried to torture me for your entertainment. You tried with all your might to hurt me and often times you did! One of you even took something that didn’t belong to you …. I didn’t want to give it and now I can never get it back. You turned me into a shell of a girl. You pushed me into depression and self destruction until I just wanted to die. You stole from me those high school years that most treasure. I only wanted to become ………INVISIBLE. I found solace in the repetitious playing of this heavy metal song by Dio! It made me take look deep within myself. I worked through my misery that you brought me. Naked Cowboy

Today was a difficult day at my LSS (Local Scrap Store) for a teacher! We were creating a tin with cards ..........

While teaching the class ..... guess who rode by the store..... a NAKED COWBOY!

We'll he wasn't completely naked, but apparently he had gone to the saddle club down the street and was riding his horse back home in his boxers! Guess he got hot. He was traveling w/his friend (who was also riding a horse, but he was clothed). I just hope this wan't a hometown version of BROKE BACK MOUNTAIN! ANYWAY, it's really hard to keep the ladies focused on the class when they're gettin a free peek at a sweaty cowboy! This is one of those moments I wish I had my camera with me. I didn't, so you'll have to settle with the cheeky fella above! LOL!!!! Who'da thought!

Today I had a rather uneventful day. I took the boys to the Museum for an IMAX show about the Deep Sea. We were back in the area of ‘home’ around 4:15 pm and I wanted something quick and easy for dinner. I went into the local grocery to pick out some quick fixins.

I was on my way to the checkout walking w/my oldest son past the end of the aisles. About the time that I reached the end of the aluminum foil/plastic wrap isle, a while male, appx 40 years old and very thin ran down the aisle nearly knocking me and my son over. I noticed the man carrying a small purse. My first instinct was that some man was messing around with his wife, but how rude!! Within a second I realized that that the woman in the aisle shopping had stepped away from her buggy. There was NO ONE ELSE in that aisle and I knew that he had just stolen HER purse. I quickly approached her and told her a man had just stolen her purse. Then we heard someone loudly yell something inaudible and then the emergency exit alarm went off in the back of the store.

I ran to the customer service telling them to call the police that a purse thief was in the store. Quicky they called, I was on the phone giving the police the details and mostly a description of the man. I gave the store my information if they needed a witness or the woman who had her purse stolen needed it. After I felt that I had done ALL I could do at that moment, I grabbed up my boys and proceeded from customer service and went to a cashier to pay for my items. While paying for my stuff I hear the lady in the checkout beside me talking about a man trying to grab her purse and she yelled (that was the loud inaudible yell). She was tugging back on her purse and he gave up and ran. This man tried to get out the store w/two purses!!!! Apparently he had a car (may have been stolen .... I think it was because it had handicap tags/plates and the man didn't appear handicaped. The tags were from the neighboring state, but isn't an unusual thing to see in my area. I talked to her briefly and she filled me in on the details of her ordeal while talking to a store manager. Within seconds, I had heard that there was a bad wreck at the intersection right infront of the store. In my heart I had an feeling that the incidents were related. I told store staff that when I left I was going to go check it out and see if I could see the man in the wreck.

Low and behold as I approached I saw the woman who I confronted about her purse. The police rushed towards me telling me that I didn't need to be there and had to leave. I told them that if this was related to the purse thief in the store I had to leave. He confirmed that they were related and directed me towards another office who took my info and statement.

It turns out that the police were passing him (the station is really close to the store) he panicked and floored it through the intersection crashing into another small truck (a Ford). The truck had flipped and rolled and was upside down. The thief had hit the metal light pole and was dazed but running through the field trying to evade the officers. They did catch him. He is going to jail, but my heart is going out to the man in the truck that flipped. They had to rush him to the local trauma hospital and the officers said that they were pretty sure he was not going to make it. The felt strongly that he'd be DOA. All this over a purse with nothing in it but (according to the owner of the purse) a few pens, a debit card and a maxi pad. She had the debit card cancelled just as soon as it was stolen. She had the number programmed into her speed dial on her cell phone! Good move on her part. He would have never gotten a chance to use it. Of course, now he could use that maxi-pad on the head wounds!

I'll post back if I hear anything about this fella that they didn't expect to make it. I suspect they'll wait to see if he lives or dies to determine if they'll charge him w/vehicular manslaughter, purse snatching, attempted purse snatching, wreckless driving, and possibly a stolen vehicle. This man is going down.... IF THEY CALL ME FOR COURT.... I'LL BE THERE!!!!!

Whew .... that was my drama for the day .... a real life COPS episode!!

UPDATE: The fella that was in the truck has made it (so far). He's still listed in cricital condition - from what I've learned it was an elderly man. The thief, has a history of drug abuse on his police record and apparently was no stranger to the 'system'. He has been hospitalized for a week .... hope it's been worth it to him. Dumbass!

INKSTER: How long have you been scrapping?
MY REPLY: I started just before the birth of my first child in 1997. I was dishearted due to the product limits in the industry after about a year and gave it up. In 1999 I discovered the industry had flourished with millions of products, techniques and the possibilities were only limited by MY creativity. The scrapper in me was reborn!

INKSTER: What products can u absolutely NOT live without
MY REPLY: I'd have to say my cutterpede, my adhesive, and stamp sets. Although I'd never give ANY of it up!

INKSTER: Whats is your fave snack while scrapping?
MY REPLY: Beverage would be either Vault or Coffee. Snack Food would have to be PB Crackers

INKSTER: Do you prefer crops or scrapping alone?
MY REPLY: I mostly scrap alone, otherwise I loose my train of thought and gab too much. Although I do like my crops!

INKSTER: Whats your fave scrappy brand?
MY REPLY: I have numerous favorites. For Papers it's Cosmo Cricket & Karen Foster. For Adhesives its Glue Dots or Herma, For Papercutters I chose Cutterpede. I haven't found too much stuff that I don't like. If I narrow it down to just one brand............. TIM HOLTZ PRODUCTS!!!

INKSTER: Have you ever been on a design team?
MY REPLY: Yes. Presently on two different web-sites and I teach at my LSS, as well as offer private classes.

INKSTER: What colors do u find yourself using most often
MY REPLY: I try to very it, but find myself using more earthtones and blues/aquas.

INKSTER: Whats your position on using gluestick?
MY REPLY: Hate 'em! I think they are messy & don't adhere as well. Maybe it's just the brands that I've tried, but I just don't bother with them.

INKSTER: Do you scare yourself with the scrap shopping or overshopping?
MY REPLY: Heck yeah! I always spend way more than I want to and always have to do some creative finances to get what I want. DH does not financially support my habit (I keep it that way so he can not ever throw the cost back at me since I am a SAHM). If I don't buy anything except adhesive now .... I'll have enough stuff to fill over 20 SB BOOKS!

INKSTER: Minibooks or single layouts?
MY REPLY: Although I tend to create layouts instead of mini-books, I don't limit myself. I create ATC's, Cards, Mini-books, layouts, and an assortment of altered arts.

INKSTER: Ice cream or cupcakes?
MY REPLY: Most definitely ice cream. Cupcakes are good, but I like to savor the flavor and I eat the cupcake too fast. So I scream for Ice Cream.

One Woman's Trash become MY TREASURE

Recently a friend of mine called me and said that she had found a yardsale that I needed to hit. Lucky for me the woman said she'd be out for only another 45 minutes ....... it was a 15 min drive. When I got there it was like paradise. The lady was a former Stampin Up rep and was cleaning house. She had a whole table dedicated to scrapbooking items that she was getting rid of. They were all things that were brand new. I checked with my catalog when I got home and compared the prices.... all the goodies I bought would have totalled up to $683. Whew I can't afford to throw that kinda money at my hobby, especially not with a gallon of milk (or for that matter gas) costing what it does now. I left with a huge box of goodies and it cost $100! I can chew on that one for a bit and swallow that cost when I considered how much I saved. To give you an example.....

Daddy gets what daddy wants!

My poor Mojo! Yesterday was ‘supposed’ to go to the vet for a check-up and ‘discussion’ about her ears. Turns out, that the vet wanted to crop hers immediately because she was at the age where her ears might not take a crop.

I was not happy … I love those cute floppy ears. Daddy wanted her to look like a Doberman with the cropped ears and all so yesterday I they cropped her ears. My poor baby has her ears all bandaged up and I miss those cute floppy flaps of flesh. Besides that, I just don’t think cropping the ears is at all necessary.

As usual, daddy gets, what daddy wants!

My dear Roxy, whom I lost over a month ago, will NEVER be replaced in my heart. She was a great protector, friend and companion. I will forever miss her!

This week I finally came to the point (in my heart) that I felt that I had more love to give again …. I just got another Doberman.

Her name is Mojo and she’s an 11 week old black & rust AKC and is full of herself! She’s high energy, non-stop pup! She has had her tail docked, but has not had her ears cropped.

Blonde + Roller Skates = Double Fracture

Yup ....I'll probably go roller skating again, being how us blondes are known for not being toooo bright! I used to absolutely love going skating. Even though I fell, I did really good (no kidding). I was skating forwards, backwards and turning and it had been 12+ yrs. I know, I know.... I still fell. Honestly though it was while exiting from the smooth rink to the new carpeting ....... it was like hitting the brakes on the wheels although the top half of me still had the momentum !!!!

Oh, went back to the dr yesterday. He said that it has a definite fracture and possibly another one and a piece of the elbow broke off and is just floatin' 'round in there. Hmmmm, that can't be good!

So yeah ... I'll probably go back,maybe next time I wont fall down and go boom. Besides, what kind of example would I be sending my boys if I fell and didn't stand up, dust myself off and try again!

Title sounds horriffic, quite frankly that's how I feel. I had to put my beloved doberman to sleep. She hadn't ate in 48 hours and she just was acting very lethargic. No to mention she poopied nothing but a stream of blood. It was time. I love my friend, but she doesn't deserve to suffer. I feel so depressed though.

Dear Roxy,

I sit here as I type this letter and watch your breathing. Every breath, a testimonial to the life you've lived. I remember when you came running over to see my son who was then one and a half. You were happy, loving and most of all, chosen. You were chosen to be our beloved addition. You have grown over the years, as have the boys. You have played with them, wrestled with them and at times been a friend to them. You truly love those kids. We have been through much together, from life, love and even separation.

We thought we lost you for good after our awful car accident and you were left behind the scene ... 100's of miles from home, injured. We didn't know how or if we'd ever see you again, or if you were even alive. Thanks to a kind man who found you a week later and back tracked to a vet that would treat your wounds until they found us. We were reunited two weeks after the accident when I felt I was able to travel short distances. You were so happy to see me and licked my face. I broke down crying with relief, joy and hurt for your injuries. You healed, just as I did, in time and we have been inseparable since. The mere thought of losing you AGAIN tears me up! Now, you're 7.5 yrs old, a good age for my girl, but not a graceful age. You have begun to have health issues (seizures, body masses, swollen joints) that have me fearing the loss of you again.

Each night as I lay down to sleep, you come and curl up with me. You keep me warm you make me feel secure and safe. You make me feel loved. I fear that the day is coming near, but I will do what is right by you. I do not want you to suffer. Although, my dear Roxy, I'd want you here with me forever.

I had my oldest keeping an eye on her while she went potty and he came inside to get me and told me she fell down again. When I got to her, she wasn’t dazed, BUT she was lying down. As I approached she stood up.

I honestly can’t afford to medicate her to stop the seizures especially if it’s more than $20/month. Especially since she ALREADY has the body masses that we believe is cancer.

We just are taking things one day at a time, but if you recall she was having it rough with husband. Since I broke down and told him about her condition and he saw her fall out yesterday, he has been so much nicer to her.

I fear my darling Doberman ….. might have the big C !!! Yes, I mean cancer! She’s developed masses on her body and her joints are swelling! She’s my big baby and I can’t possibly imagine something like this happening to her! I’m so worried for her! I know it sounds weird, but please keep her in your mind …. This is not actually MY dobie! I bought her for my oldest son at Christmas when he was two! She is a great, loving and protective friend. She’s more than a pet …. She’s my girl!

She went to the vet. They said that they strongly believed it's cancer due to her swelling of joints, body masses, appetite changes, stool color and lathargic tendencies. She can't jump into my son's bed ... which she has never been opposed to before. she doesn't want to get out of her bed to go potty. the mases have showed up rather quickly .... between 3-5 days which is quick for it to be anything other than. In order to find out for sure, I will have to undergo about $200 in tests. She's definitely worth it, but dh won't go for it. His take is that for $200 he could just about purchase another purebred dobie pup. I'm so distraught over this and I can't even talk to dh about it. He doesn't want to hear anything about it.

I finally broke down this morning while petting Roxy (my dobie) and dh asked was I tearing up and why. I told him about her masses, her black poopies (which indicates blood in stool) and her other issues. He genuinely seemed sad. .... Me too!

OMG!!!! Roxy was laying down on my covers in the middle of the living room. She got up and walked to her house and before she could get there it was like both her back legs went out from under her.... then her front legs because the back two gave out. Her eyes were darting left and right but with nothing there...she was like dazed. She laid there like that for about 1 min (seemed like 5!) but then she game back into focus, eyes settled, and she slowly stood up and went into her house. WTH????? Was that a seizure?????

Sorry, a little freaked out right now!

She even left a little pp puddle. :( Like she was scared or lost control.I'm so worried for her, like she was my own kid. All I can do is love her and be with her until it's time. The last few days since my original post had all been *good* days. I'll be okay for now, but when it comes time ... I might need a shoulder and a xanax.

I finally broke down Saturday and told my DH about our Dobie being sick. DH had ill feelings towards her until he discovered that part of her 'issues' are not helpable by her. I believe she has cancer and DDD.

Mississippi Tornado

We had a tornado hit here just a few days back. I wasn't sure if any other you other ladies knew. I went around today and took a few pictures. I tried to be respectful of HOME OWNERS and not shoot any homes .... and believe me there were quite a few that had damage. Trees on houses, vehicles, uprooted. Blown away shingles, and just lots of wind damage. The photos below are of a couple businesses that are about 8-10 min from my house. This is the second tornado that has come close to me, but not nearly as close as the one I encountered in Nashville around 1998 where I was without power for nearly 2 weeks!

Anyhow, Below are some picts of the industrial section that got hit pretty hard. There are quite a few people unemployed now and that damaged homes. Although the most that happened to mine was a few shingles were missing .... 37 to be exact, my heart goes out to those with great losses!

This is COOPER LIGHTING, their business was ripped too pooo! You can see inside their building quite well and they have security there so that no one can enter and take things from the exposed palates. To make matters worse for this business, it caught on fire during the tornado. These photos were taken today, so it's apparent it's going to be a slow recovery process..

I do not know the name of the business that is in the photo below. I dubbed it the 330 building. I know that it's right across the street from the park I take my kids to play at and this is the one, although you can't tell in the photos, that had 2 semi's over turned and tossed INSIDE the building. When I drove by 3 days ago, the semis were there, but today it looked like they had been removed.

The following business is also unknown to me.... and honestly there's not much of it left for me to try to figure out what it used to be .... but it's demolished. This photo is what it looked like from the tornado NOT THE CLEAN UP!

I know that this could happen anywhere, but I just wanted to ask everyone to keep everyone that was affected by this tornado in their thoughts.

Well Fed Ex Dropped of the Goods!

I was headed out the door today when FedEx dropped of my goods for the EK Success/Jolee's Contest I entered in November!

Whhooo-hoooo!

It was a lot of stuff they sent .... all stickers, but atleast I'll be stocked for quite some time.
There was a wide array of stuff, even some stuff I'm sure I'll never get the opportunity to use.
I'll post up some picts of the loot later ..... last count it was 47 SETS!

I'm so thrilled that I can't stand myself right now!

The day is drawing near for me to see my submission in print with EK Success. I'm so excited. I had to mail them the layout and I know that they said it was the January 8th Newsletter and "What's New" on their site, but I'm not very good at being patient! Atleast not when it comes to getting scrappin goodies! I'll post up details when the email goes out.

I have a busy month ahead of me with lots of meetings, homeschooling, field trips, and teaching scrapbooking classes at my LSS. This month I'll be teaching wedding pages, an altered wooden picture frame & a "Year In Review" two page layout about what else.... the end of 2007 (Shown Below). The tags can be used to show a variety of things. In my example here I have them showing things such as 'current prices for milk, gas, etc. I also have two tags that show what each of my boys liked the most about that year (movie, music, etc).

What an awesome way to start my day ....

Man vs. Dog

PROBLEM: My husband is counting they days to force me to get rid of my son's dog!!!!!

Firstly let me set the stage .....
December 2000 I bought a AKC Doberman for Christmas for my son. My husband was insistant upon the breed and MY money funded the purchase .... which wasn't cheap.

We've been through a lot with this dog, whom we named Roxy. We even went through a severe SUV Rollover (8 or 9 rolls on the interstate @ appx 70 mph). After the wreck she got out of the vehichle. I was life-flighted to the best hospital near me and my boys and husband whose injuries weren't as life threatening as mine went to another. ROXY was gone! A passer by stopped and looked for her, but couldn't find her. Two days later the kind man stopped again on his way back home from his business trip and FOUND HER! He then drove her back towards us and tried to find a vet in the area which would take her since she was also injured. He drove in the opposite direction of his destination by ONE HOUR! A true samaratian!!!! He found a vet that would accept her and they cleaned her wounds. Unknowingly, they tracked us down by calling all the hospitals in the area. They had found us after four days! We had FOUR DAYS of asking ourselves how are we going to tell my son that his dog is gone and worse ... probably dead. When we got the call that she was safe I had unleased hours of tears of relief. Two days later we went to see her at the vet's office and 'approved' a surgery she needed to repair her wounds from the wreck. SHE IS VERY DEAR TO ME!

Several years have passed now and she has developed some kind of allergy that causes her to have a odor problem. After 24-48 hrs the odor comes back. I have taken her to the vet and they have her on steriods now which seems to slow the problem.

My husband has developed a 'hack' which I am associating with SMOKERS HACK and a residual cough from a bad cold! It was brought on by his YEARS of smoking. The hack has make him ultra sensitive to other smells, namely our dog. So this brings me to my problem.........

What should I do?
